Bursting into Fearless Focus

“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.” – Brian Tracy

Plunging into the creation of my new dream, I hit a wall of terror. Facing the inner demons that challenged me through two sleepless nights, I realized I was at a “make it or break it” point. I needed to find the courage to commit full-steam ahead to moving through unfamiliar territory in pursuit of my divinely guided purpose to bring new material to the world in a new way. Or, I could opt to give up on my dream for the illusion of safety from another source outside of myself.

Wrestling with the conflict, I prayed and asked for a miracle. I literally wrote on my white board, “Miracle opening NOW. Let go and trust.” That very same day, two amazing events happened.

First, at a networking meeting, I sat next to an entrepreneur who needs my writing skills. Working for him on a contract basis could enable me to partly fund my next project without forfeiting my focus on all I have created to date.

Secondly, serendipitously I received in the mail an advance copy of a powerful new book from my friend, Gail McMeekin. Called “The 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women,” the book provides strategies and life examples from many entrepreneurial, artistic and political women who pushed through fear to manifest their incredible businesses and careers. I was especially delighted to see that I knew some of the people referenced in the book.

I took these two incidences as signals from the Universe that I am being supported in moving forward on my right path. To manage all the fear about not having all the immediate resources I need, I continue to focus on the larger picture. In fact, it is that larger picture that brings together all the puzzle pieces of my life to serve the world in a unique and powerful way.

Daily action steps, including my one-hour morning routine of meditating, listening to empowering tapes and visualizing my desired outcomes, are also part of the focus needed to keep me on track.

I share my walk through angst and anxiety here for it is part of the creative process, as my friend Gail so eloquently shares in her book. Fear need not be a stopping point. We conquer it moment by moment in choosing focus as our intent.

Focus used to seem a dull and tedious word to me. Now I view it as incredibly freeing—so much so I am bursting with momentum again as I listen wisely for the next steps.

BELIEF TIP for Bursting into Fearless Focus:

Write out the statement below long-hand a few times each day. Then, repeat out loud as frequently as you desire, but especially in the morning and at night when in restful states:

I allow myself to conquer fear by becoming incredibly focused on what I desire to attract, or choose to bring forth in the world.

Beth Scanzani’s photo of the brilliant tulip bursting open with vibrancy exemplifies the joy we can feel when we push through fear and focus on bringing our unique gifts to the world.

Wow, I actually got chills reading your post. Especially as a small business owner, it can be hard to stay positive when roadblocks come rolling at you. Thanks for the reminder about believing in yourself, and the strategies you mention, which I know can make a difference. Best of luck with your efforts and keep your eager readers posted — we’re right behind you!

  • Gail:

Elizabeth: I am glad as a small business owner that you found such support in today’s post. And, I thank you for assuring me that my readers are “right behind” me in pursuit of my dream. It meant a lot to me, especially as a coach who continually advises others to build a team of support. In fact, I encourage my clients, particularly those in transition, to have a list of at least 10 people who can support them through their change. Cheering squads and sounding boards are great for our souls…and keeping us on track! Plus, success is a lot more fun when shared.

The journey is awesome and the only thing that holds us back from our “greatness” is the fear. It is astounding to find one’s self walking into the greatness as it unfolds. Our dream is right front of us and we are “shaking in out boots” and unable to move. Our feet and ankles hurt as fear seek to stop us but a force within navigates us to hobble forward by taking one step and then another. The doubts and insecurities we imagine in this new encounter falls away and we see ourselves as this beautiful, intelligent being of light who has transcend to do a tour of duty with and new family of light beings. The greatest task is sitting with the fear. Fear is part of us that is unable to trust being in the darkness. That part was my inner child who needed me to speak assurance that the past was behind us. I had to let my inner child know that she was always protected. Funny thing the ankle stop hurting and my hobble became a quick step to on my new path. My journey has elevated me to make a career change after having been with a company for the past ten years. My ship has come in and I am sailing new seas for new adventures. Shine a little love and light on “fear” and it will dissipate. ONWARD……….

    Barbara:
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on walking into greatness through shining a little light and love on fear. You speak so soulfully of the ways you have learned to feel protected. Your wisdom is much appreciated.

    Hi Gail,
Thank you for sharing your story of courage. Your willingness to tell the truth will help many of your readers to take positive steps towards empowerment in their lives. I’m so glad that “The 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women” showed up for you at precisely the right time. You are the third person in the one week the book has been out who has written me about the significant timing of this book in their lives. I am glad the magic worked for you too! Best of luck with your vision. Successful women must walk through the fire sometimes in the course of their journey.

Gail: Not only is it synchronistic that we share the same name (both first and middle names no less) and that your book showed up in my life when I needed it most. but that we are both
divinely guided to help empower others to live into their greatness. Your research and guidance provide the most in-depth resource for “walking through the fire”–especially for those of us who thought we could bypass that step and just bring our creative gifts forth. Your teaching that fear is a normal part of the process is so invaluable. I’m thrilled to hear so many are already feeling the magic of your work. Congratulations and best of luck with your book launch.
